About Convergence
Exploring the intersection of art, faith, and the human experience
At Convergence, church is a dynamic, communal experience—more like an artist collective than a rigid institution. We believe faith is a creative process, shaped by collaboration, discovery, and transformation. It’s not about buildings or programs but about people wrestling with faith, seeking wisdom, and making space for God at the center of life.
Born from the question, “What if church and the arts could truly connect?” Convergence began in 2007 as an experiment in faith and creativity. Over the years, we have grown into a vibrant community where artists, seekers, and faith leaders come together to explore their God-given gifts. Through worship, artistic expression, and authentic relationships, we seek to renew culture and reflect the beauty of the Creator.
As a collective, we are committed to whole-life worship, creative discipleship, and stewarding our gifts in service to God’s kingdom. Whether you are an artist, a spiritual seeker, or someone longing for a faith community that values imagination, you are welcome here. By embracing creativity, we open ourselves to deeper engagement with God, one another, and the world.

Convergence is a communal, creative process rather than a static institution. Just as an artist collective values collaboration, discovery, and transformation, we embrace the spiritual process as our shared work of art.
At Convergence, this spiritual process merges with artistic practice, flowing outward to love and serve the world through our vocations and our soul|makers outreach. We believe God created us to make—to be joyful co-creators, embodying Jesus’ prayer: “May God’s kingdom come; may God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Convergence was founded in Alexandria, Virginia as an experiment in 2007 with a bold question: What if church and the arts could truly connect? We believe that culture is something we are called to create, shaping the world in the image of the Creator. Over the years, Convergence has become a space where faith and creativity meet, forming a vibrant community of artists, makers, and seekers committed to whole-life worship and cultural renewal.
Our journey began when Rev. Lisa Cole Smith, an artist and seminary student, saw a disconnect between churches and the arts. Many churches longed to integrate creativity into worship but lacked the tools, while artists often struggled to connect their spiritual and artistic lives. Convergence was founded to bridge this gap, fostering a community where artists and faith leaders grow together, explore spiritual imagination, and embrace their God-given calling.
Today, Convergence continues as a creative collective—people committed to living out the way of Jesus through worship, artistic practice, and authentic community. Whether you are an artist, a spiritual seeker, or someone longing for a church that values imagination and cultural engagement, you are welcome here. We believe that by embracing creativity, we can more fully engage with God, each other, and the world around us.
If you’re looking for a place where faith and artistry intertwine, where deep questions are welcomed, and where your gifts can be nurtured, Convergence may be the space you’ve been searching for.
