2nd Sundays In-Person

“Even though people had forgotten, the birds and the flowers hadn’t forgotten – they still knew their song. It was the song that all God’s creation had sung to Him from the very beginning. It was the song people’s hearts were made to sing: “God made us. He loves us. He is very pleased with us.”

The very first video we created was called “Learning to See: Invited to the Sound.” The only visuals are of the clouds through the leaves on a tree in my front yard taken on my phone. And the narration is just a simple reflection on the incredibly beautiful song All the Trees of The Fields Will Clap Their Hands by Sufjan Stevens.

Join Us 2nd Sundays, 4PM at the Lab for Singing, Prayer and Communion

It’s so simple but it is still one of the pieces that resonates most. I think it’s the idea of being connected to the larger world…and something even larger behind that.

It’s also the desire to be swept away by this chorus of “music” (both visible and audible) that all of nature is singing. We’re longing to accept the invitation to “join the sound.” Sometimes it just feels as if we’ve lost the tune.

We can faintly hear it in the background but can’t quite catch it. Because it’s one of those things you can’t grasp. You have to sit quietly and let it come to you.

Convergence is embracing a “spiritual gym” model of Christian community for artists. That means, we’ve got all kinds of ways and times to practice the skills necessary to have a full, rich spiritual life and a healthy relationship with God.

We’ve worked hard to provide spaces for creative prayer, contemplation and holy listening online and now we’re ready to start imagining how that looks in physical space.

Join us on the 2nd Sunday of the month in-person.

Each month we’re gathering to practice singing the song our hearts were made to sing.

Our next gathering is Sunday, October 9th at 4:00 PM in person at the Lab playground for a relaxed time of singing, prayer and communion.

Children are welcome and we’ll be looking for ways to actively involve everyone the whole time!

Come help us listen for the song of our hearts and remember how to sing it together.

The Lab is located at 1819 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302
