Artscape to Heartscape with Mary Jane Miller & Adrienne Reedy

Convergence Creative Prayer

November 6, 2022

Each month on the first Sunday, Adrienne Reedy leads Artscape to Heartscape for our online Creative Prayer. These are conversational gatherings designed to shape, sculpt and mold the landscape of life through creative expression and conversation.

Mary Jane Miller

Mary Jane Miller, is an icon painter and writer and one of the most compelling modern iconographers of the modern world. She is known for her contemporary sacred art collection

Miller describes each of her icon paintings as a visual meditation, a process by which she finds answers to the eternal questions she constantly asks herself. The Sacred Art collection reflects modern life through modern icon painting techniques. Yet, her painting process is rooted in ancient traditional rules of iconography. Mary often finds her inspiration in the works of the ancient Byzantine iconography painters of Russia, Greece and Eastern Europe.

Mary Jane Miller lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and painted icons for more than 25 years. As a woman iconographer, she hopes to create images where people might connect to their spiritual well being, and ultimately closer to that which sustains us. “I have come to see the world as a metaphor, nearly everything which happens to us is screaming to be understood through the eye of spirit, we just need to reflect long enough to hear the message”.

Miller’s collection of Modern Icons are visual meditations whose root is in traditional Icon Painting. Mary Jane Miller pushes the edge of tradition in religious art. Today, women iconographers around the world continue to create gorgeous work. Their work preserves iconography as a sacred art form. Byzantine style icons are created through meditation and prayer to develop the spirit of living well. As a modern Byzantine style icon painter, I join my voice to other modern iconographers who speak and create. Women icon artists, mystics and healers who were heard in the days of the early church and then silenced, today they are speaking again.

Adrienne Reedy leads Creative Prayer online every third Sunday for Convergence with Artscape to Heartscape.

As a recording gospel artist, Adrienne painted pictures with words through music. On Christmas morning 2018, she found of boxes of soft pastels stuffed in her Christmas stocking.  It didn’t take long before painting with pastels became a passion. Learn more about Adrienne and our 5:00 PM Sunday sessions here…
